Alarming Allegations: Sharad Pawar Condemns Misuse of Power and Money in Maharashtra Polls
NCP chief Sharad Pawar has raised concerns over alleged electoral malpractice in the recent Maharashtra Assembly elections, which he claims involved unprecedented misuse of power and money. Visiting activist Dr. Baba Adhav, who is protesting against alleged EVM manipulation, Pawar noted growing public unrest and recalled late socialist Jaiprakash Narayan’s spirit calling for action. The elections saw the Mahayuti alliance, consisting of Shiv Sena, BJP, and NCP, secure a landslide victory with 230 out of 288 seats, while the Opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi managed only 46 seats. Pawar stated that while there are murmurs of electoral manipulation, he lacks concrete evidence. He criticized the governing authorities for impeding discussions in Parliament and expressed fears over threats to India’s Parliamentary democracy. Moreover, the Congress raised concerns over irregular voting patterns, which Pawar acknowledges might hold some truth. Despite demands for recounts by defeated candidates, Pawar remains skeptical about the outcomes. The INDIA bloc aims to address these issues collectively, with further decisions expected soon.
