India’s Dominant Triumph: Red-Hot Team Crushes Australia for Historic 1st Test Victory, Takes Commanding 1-0 Lead!
India Dominates Australia in First Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Last updated: November 25, 2024
India demolished Australia by 295 runs in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The match, held at the Optus Stadium in Perth, saw India achieve their biggest Test win in Australia by runs. The victory marked India’s first Test win at the stadium, breaking the Aussies’ unbeaten record there.
Australia, chasing a daunting target of 534, collapsed to 238 all out in just 58.4 overs. Under the captaincy of Jasprit Bumrah, standing in for Rohit Sharma, India showed impressive bowling performance. Bumrah claimed three wickets in the second innings, while Mohammed Siraj also took three, decimating the hosts’ batting lineup.
Starting the fourth day at 12 for 3, Australia quickly lost Usman Khawaja to Mohammed Siraj. Although Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head attempted to stabilize the innings, their efforts were insufficient as Indian bowlers rapidly wrapped up the proceedings.
This triumph moved India back to the No. 1 spot on the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table. The result also marked only the second time India has won the opening Test of a series in Australia, a feat last achieved in 2018 at Adelaide.
The second Test will be a day-night encounter at Adelaide Oval, starting December 6. India aims to avenge their previous pink-ball Test debacle in 2020, where they recorded their lowest-ever Test total of 36 runs against Australia.
The comprehensive victory in Perth sets India in a strong position to aim for their third consecutive Test series win in Australia. All eyes now turn to Adelaide, where the visitors will seek to consolidate their advantage.
