Shocking Scam Unveiled: Massive Solar Light Distribution Fraud Rocks Dhubri – FIR Lodged Against SPIO
An alleged scam in the distribution of solar-powered streetlights under the 5th Assam State Finance Commission (ASFC) scheme for 2018-19 has sparked outrage in Dhubri district. Nikhil Roy, a local resident, discovered suspected irregularities after filing a Right to Information (RTI) request with the Dhubri Zila Parishad. The documents he received nine months later revealed discrepancies, such as mismatched authority signatures, prompting Roy to file a First Information Report (FIR) at Golakganj police station against the SPIO of the Dhubri Zila Parishad.
Roy’s FIR challenges the entire implementation of the solar streetlight scheme and raises concerns about potential irregularities in the provision of construction materials under the 15th Finance Grant (ZP Level) scheme. He claims there are signs of non-supply of materials, indicating broader corruption across multiple development projects.
“The mismatched signatures cast doubt on the scheme’s authenticity, while the lack of transparency suggests widespread malpractice,” Roy stated. He accused officials of deliberately misleading the public and concealing irregularities, demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged scam and the SPIO’s role in obstructing transparency.
Local organizations and activists have rallied behind Roy, urging swift action from higher authorities like the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau. They demand a comprehensive investigation to hold those responsible accountable.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Dhubri Zila Parishad officials have been unsuccessful. Roy’s FIR aims to illuminate the extent of the alleged corruption and address the lack of accountability in the Zila Parishad, which oversees developmental projects and public welfare.
The revelations have outraged many, underscoring a breach of public trust. The solar-powered streetlights intended to benefit rural communities have been compromised by corruption, depriving residents of their rightful advantages. The case underscores the demand for accountability and transparency in governmental schemes.
