Remarkable Progress: Caste Survey Reaches One Crore Families, Transforming Lives in Telangana
The Telangana government’s comprehensive household survey reached a significant milestone on November 22, 2024, by enumerating one crore families in just 16 days, disproving concerns of delays due to the vast data collection involved. Commencing on November 6, the survey effectively covered nearly every family in eight out of 33 districts. Complete enumeration was achieved in Mulugu and Jangaon, while Nalgonda and Medak reached 99.9%, followed by Jagtial and Gadwal at 99.1%. Other districts with over 98% coverage include Yadadri Bhongir, Kamareddy, Asifabad, Manchiryal, Nizamabad, and Sircilla. The survey faced minor setbacks due to residents being away or homes locked but overall saw a positive response, especially in rural areas, towards Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s appeal for social empowerment through caste data. Over 1 lakh personnel, including 87,807 enumerators, are involved, with the majority deployed in rural regions. The survey’s first phase identified 1,16,14,349 families statewide, with the second phase beginning on November 9. Data so far shows 64,41,183 families in rural and 51,73,166 in urban areas. However, progress is slower in densely populated Greater Hyderabad, Medchal, and Sangareddy districts.
