Urgent Call to Action: Congress Highlights Dire Road Conditions in Dimapur, Nagaland
Ahead of the festive season in Nagaland, the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) has raised concerns over the deteriorating road conditions in the district. During a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur, DDCC President Kutoho Chishi criticized the state of the roads, which are riddled with potholes and cause significant inconvenience to commuters. Chishi urged the state government to address these issues swiftly, especially as the district expects an influx of visitors for shopping and other activities during the festive season.
Chishi also highlighted traffic congestion problems, exacerbated by ongoing repair work on a road overbridge on National Highway 29 near the Dimapur sports complex. This has led to traffic restrictions, further complicating the issue. He called on the state government, Dimapur legislators, and newly elected municipal councilors to honor their election promises to improve road infrastructure.
Furthermore, Chishi brought attention to alleged irregularities in the implementation of government schemes, citing numerous public complaints. Mughabe Zhimomi, the General Secretary (Admin) of Nagaland Pradesh Congress Seva Dal, claimed that beneficiaries of the PMAYG scheme are being asked to pay Rs 18,000, and job card holders are experiencing wage deductions of up to 80%. Additionally, Zhimomi alleged that completion certificates are issued prematurely to contractors under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
NSUI State President X Chophika Sumi reminded the ruling legislators of their election promises to enhance road networks in the state, highlighting unmet commitments from the 2018 and 2023 state assembly elections. The DDCC’s call to action aims to ensure that the state government undertakes necessary road repairs and addresses public grievances effectively, aiming to ease travel for residents and visitors alike.
