Heroic Delhi Cop Courageously Rescues Elderly Woman from Smoke-Filled Building Amidst Chaos
On Sunday at around 2 p.m., a fire broke out in a two-storey building in Shakti Nagar, prompting a swift response from Roop Nagar Police. Station House Officer (SHO) Ramesh Kaushik, upon receiving the distress call, immediately headed to the scene to find residents in a frantic evacuation. The blaze had engulfed the building where two families resided, forcing them to flee. Meanwhile, smoke began to infiltrate a neighboring four-floor building, escalating the emergency.
Most of the adjacent building’s residents managed to escape, but a 76-year-old woman found herself trapped on the terrace, unable to move due to her diabetes and mobility issues. Her daughter-in-law, desperate for assistance, reached out to SHO Kaushik upon his arrival.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, SHO Kaushik, accompanied by Head Constable Rajneesh and Constable Jitender, courageously entered the smoke-filled building. With the elevator disabled by the intense heat, the team resorted to climbing the dark stairwell, using handkerchiefs to shield themselves from the thick smoke.
Upon reaching the terrace, the officers found the elderly woman in distress. Demonstrating commendable bravery, SHO Kaushik lifted her and carefully navigated the descent, despite the lack of visibility. “All I kept thinking about was getting her out safely,” the officer later remarked.
The rescued woman expressed profound gratitude, stating, “These policemen saved my life. I am so thankful to the Delhi Police for their bravery.” SHO Kaushik emphasized the collective effort involved, stating, “Saving a life is the most important thing in moments like this.”
This act of courage and quick thinking by the Delhi Police exemplifies their dedication to public safety and protection, showcasing a commendable effort in the face of adversity.
