In the midst of a growing crisis at Meghalaya’s North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Nirmalendu Saha has announced that a two-member committee from the Ministry of Education will soon be visiting the campus. The committee is expected to submit detailed information to the Ministry by November 19.
Simultaneously, the campus has been gripped by a prolonged hunger strike led by students, which reached its 15th day on November 19. The protesting students have made urgent demands, including the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Prabha Shankar Shukla, along with the Registrar, Deputy Registrar, and other key officials.
Professor Saha has publicly appealed for unity and urged students to end their hunger strike, highlighting the need for a concerted effort to resolve the ongoing turmoil at the university. This situation highlights the escalating tension within NEHU, as students express their dissatisfaction with current leadership and call for significant administrative changes.
