Outrage Unleashed: Traders Accuse Bir Lachit Sena of Bold Money Demands!
The Naharkatia Chamber of Commerce in Dibrugarh, Assam, has leveled serious allegations against the Bir Lachit Sena (BLS), accusing them of extortion and disrupting business operations. According to the chamber, the BLS has been coercing businesses in Naharkatia into paying hefty sums of money, with demands ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000. The organization described these demands as extortionate rather than charitable contributions.
In a meeting with the district administration, the chamber detailed how BLS members have been creating obstacles in their daily business activities and urged authorities to intervene promptly. Members of the chamber further alleged that some BLS representatives went as far as to insist that businesses be handed over to them if the demanded payments were not made.
A senior businessman from the town expressed a willingness to make voluntary donations but drew a firm line against being extorted. This incident has raised significant concerns among the business community regarding their ability to operate without interference.
The allegations against the Bir Lachit Sena underscore a troubling pattern of forceful money collection that could have widespread implications for local businesses. The chamber’s plea for intervention highlights the urgency of addressing these claims to safeguard the interests of the business community in Naharkatia.
