Celebrating Heritage: BSS Powerfully Honors 73rd ‘Boro Thunlai Afad Saan’ in New Delhi, Championing Bodo Language and Literature
The Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) celebrated its 73rd foundation day at the SAI Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex in New Delhi, emphasizing its commitment to the Bodo language and literature. The event saw BSS President Dr. Surath Narzary hoisting the organizational flag, while Vice President Sitaram Basumatary paid homage to martyrs. A grand cultural rally, initiated by MP Joyanta Basumatary and joined by BTC Chief Pramod Boro and other dignitaries, spotlighted Bodo culture as it circled key locations in Delhi.
Dr. Narzary, in a media interview, highlighted the BSS’s progress since 1952, overcoming hurdles like establishing Bodo as a medium of instruction, creating Bodo medium posts, and finalizing a permanent script. He noted that the National Education Policy, 2020, supports vernacular mediums, ensuring Bodo’s continued growth without negative impacts. Efforts with the Assam government aim to address Bodo medium school teacher appointments and textbook distribution.
An open discussion chaired by Dr. Narzary focused on the theme, “Challenges and Opportunities of Mother Tongue Medium through National Education Policy, 2020.” The event also honored notable Indian personalities, including Dr. Pramod Chandra Bhattacharya and Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, for their contributions to linguistics and culture.
