In a gripping regional derby, Northeast United FC advanced to the quarterfinals of the 40th Governor’s Gold Cup after a hard-fought 3-1 extra-time victory over Mizoram’s Khawzawl Vengthar FC on Thursday afternoon in Gangtok. The match remained goalless at the end of regulation time, with both teams demonstrating equal prowess, though Northeast United slightly edged ahead in goal-scoring opportunities.
The breakthrough came in the 94th minute when Bekey Oram scored the first goal with a well-placed header. Oram further extended the lead in the 109th minute, skillfully lobbing the ball over the opposing goalkeeper.
