Urgent Plea: Manipur Students Demand Safe Return of Kidnapped Women and Children on Children’s Day | Heartfelt Guwahati News
On Children’s Day, students from schools and colleges in Imphal Valley formed human chains outside their institutions to protest the alleged abduction of three women and three children by militants in Jiribam district. The individuals, who were internally displaced people residing in a relief camp in Jakuradhor village, went missing after a violent incident on Monday, where ten “armed militants” were killed. In response, the students, organized by the COCOMI Students’ Front, held black flags and badges, demanding the immediate release of the hostages and decisive action from both the central and state governments. They displayed placards with messages such as “Release the innocent children” and “Release our friends.”
Manipur BJP President Sharda Devi described the abductions as “unfortunate” and urged for the hostages’ safe return on humanitarian grounds. She further condemned the violence against civilians and revealed that the party had met with the governor, who assured action against those responsible for the violence. Meanwhile, the Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee’s women’s wing also called for the immediate release of the captives, urging the Indian government to take swift action to prevent potential harm to the victims. The committee held the government accountable and warned of possible repercussions if urgent measures were not implemented.
Normalcy in the Imphal Valley was significantly disrupted due to a total shutdown called by 13 civil rights organizations, protesting the alleged abductions. Police stated that operations were underway to locate the missing individuals and rescue them. The situation has escalated calls for both local and national authorities to ensure the swift and safe resolution of the crisis.
