Rejoice: Tripura Celebrates as Fuel Sale Restrictions Lifted with Resumed Petroleum Imports

In response to a fuel crisis in Tripura, the state government has lifted restrictions on the sale of petrol and diesel, effective November 14. This development follows the resumption of petroleum imports, which were disrupted due to a train derailment in Assam’s Badarpur area. The derailment had halted rail connectivity in Assam’s Lumding and Badarpur regions, significantly affecting the supply chain and prompting the Tripura government to impose restrictions on fuel sales starting November 10.

Sushanta Chowdhury, the Food, Civil Supplies, and Public Distribution Minister of Tripura, provided an update, attributing the fuel crisis to the derailment incident. He announced that the situation is improving, with fuel shipments beginning to enter Tripura once again. Chowdhury assured that by the evening, the fuel crisis would be resolved as fuel-laden wagons make their way into the state.

The government has issued an official statement lifting the previous sale restrictions as the inflow of petroleum products picks up momentum, aligning with increased demand in the region. This move is expected to stabilize the fuel supply and meet the demands of consumers who faced limitations over the past few days.

This comes amid other state initiatives, including the rollout of E-KYC for ration cards in Agartala by December, with plans to integrate Aadhaar into the Public Distribution System. The lifting of fuel sale restrictions aims to quickly alleviate the shortages faced by residents and restore normalcy in fuel availability across the state.
