Among the eight issues presented, the party highlighted a potentially divisive image posted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that allegedly misrepresents the allocation of reservations for Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC), claiming they are being redirected to benefit a minority community.
The contentious image, shared on the BJP’s official social media handle, depicts an individual resembling Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushing SC, ST, and OBC individuals out of a rickshaw to accommodate a minority community member. This image, according to Congress, is a deliberate attempt by the BJP to mislead voters by promoting a false narrative of Congress’s appeasement politics. The post accompanying the image warns voters with the message: “Congress-led MVA’s game of appeasement is ON… Vote wisely, Maharashtra.”
Led by Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil, the delegation argued that the post violates ethical norms and demanded its removal from all social media platforms. The Congress urged the Election Commission to take swift action against the BJP for what it described as disseminating false and misleading content about the Congress’s intentions and policies.
In response to these concerns, sources have reported that an FIR has been filed in Ranchi against the BJP’s Jharkhand unit for breaching the Model Code of Conduct by posting misleading content online. The cybercrime police station in Ranchi has reached out to the microblogging platform in question, seeking the removal of these posts under the IT Act’s provisions.
As these events unfold, the Election Commission continues to review these complaints to ensure fair electoral practices leading up to the assembly polls. The situation underscores the ongoing tensions and strategic maneuvers characterizing the political landscape in the lead-up to elections.
