The Assam government will release the second installment of the ‘Nijut Moina’ scheme on November 11, as announced by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on social media. Demonstrating the state’s commitment to the welfare of girls, the scheme aims to combat child marriage and promote higher education among female students.

Under this initiative, approximately 1.64 lakh girl students will benefit from a financial transfer of Rs 18.39 crore directly to their bank accounts. This measure underlines the government’s intent to support and empower young girls through education. The ‘Nijut Moina’ scheme is specifically targeted at female students ranging from Class 11 to post-graduation levels in government and government-aided colleges.

The program was launched by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who has garnered cabinet approval for a substantial budget of Rs 1,500 crore dedicated to this monthly financial assistance initiative. By investing in the educational advancement of young women, the Assam government is attempting to create a more educated and equitable society, thereby addressing crucial social issues such as child marriage through education empowerment.
