Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang addressed a State Level Consultative Meeting on the NEC Vision Plan 2047 in Kohima on November 7, highlighting the state’s goals for sustainable socio-economic growth. The meeting, organized by the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Limited (NEDFi) and North Eastern Council (NEC), discussed aligning Nagaland’s developmental strategy with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a developed India by 2047.
Zeliang, who also serves as the Minister in-charge of Planning & Transformation and National Highway, outlined the plan’s core objectives: modernizing the agriculture sector with advanced technology and sustainable practices to boost food security and export opportunities; addressing infrastructure gaps through significant investment in road, air, rail, and waterway connectivity; and fostering industrial growth, especially in agro-based sectors, by establishing food processing units to benefit farmers.
In healthcare, the Deputy CM emphasized the urgent need to upgrade infrastructure and integrate modern technology, noting the absence of a Multi-Speciality Hospital in the state. He advocated for the establishment of PSA Oxygen Plants and enhanced blood bank services, along with initiatives for Green Climate Resilient Healthcare Facilities and biomedical waste management systems.
On the education front, Zeliang pointed to the lack of essential infrastructure such as academic buildings, hostels, and laboratories, critical for the operation of higher education institutions. He also highlighted the need for incubation centers and sports amenities to spur skill development and entrepreneurship.
Tourism, Zeliang said, could be a pivotal sector for income generation. He urged for strategic interventions to leverage the state’s rich cultural heritage, proposing the promotion of art and cultural activities and the development of state-of-the-art cultural and exhibition spaces, supported by seminars, workshops, and capacity building.
The Deputy CM’s comprehensive outline called for NEC’s attention and support to include these proposals in the final Vision 2047 plan.
