Shocking Family Dispute Saga: Accusations of Police Bias and Illegal Detention Stir Outrage
Allegations of Police Inaction in Dimapur Family Dispute
Dimapur, November 4 – A couple embroiled in a complex property and personal dispute has made public allegations against the Dimapur police, accusing them of inaction and unfair treatment. The couple, Dr. Mlato Shikhu, a medical doctor, and his wife Chelsea Kikon, highlighted their grievances at a press conference, claiming persistent refusal by police to accept their complaints. They were represented by two lawyers.
Dr. Shikhu alleged being abducted on October 29 by members of a Naga Political Group, purportedly instigated by his brother and his children from a previous marriage. Chelsea Kikon attempted to report her husband’s abduction to no avail, and on the same day, was detained at the Women Police Station in Dimapur after a harassment complaint from Dr. Shikhu’s children. She claimed to be unaware of the FIR against her until her arrest and accused police of questioning her lineage and denying her access to legal counsel.
Following his release, Dr. Shikhu sought to lodge a complaint regarding his alleged abduction at the West Police Station, which was reportedly ignored, prompting him to file an email complaint on the advice of the Director General of Police (DGP). Both he and Chelsea claimed their FIRs were dismissed under directives from higher-ranking officials within the Dimapur Police Commissionerate.
Chelsea, who described her detention as a human rights violation, noted that her FIR was eventually recorded the next day. She appealed for the Nagaland State Women Commission to intervene, though she acknowledged respectful treatment while in custody. According to the couple, their court marriage in September 2024 was challenged by a legal stay. Meanwhile, Dr. Shikhu’s children accused Chelsea of fraudulent actions affecting their family and requested an investigation.
Police authorities have refuted allegations of negligence and bias. The Commissioner of Police clarified that both parties filed two FIRs each, which were accepted as per procedural requirements, and were recorded in the police station’s General Diary awaiting further inquiry.
