Tragic Loss: Hyderabad Police Arrest Six in Shocking Momos Food Poisoning Case
Hyderabad police have apprehended six individuals following the death of a 31-year-old woman, Reshma Begum, allegedly due to food poisoning from contaminated momos. The incident occurred after Begum and others consumed momos from a stall in Singada Kunta vegetable market, Hyderabad, leading to her demise and severe illness for several others, including her daughters, Rimsha and Rafia. Farooq Hussain, Reshma’s brother and a resident of Banjara Hills, reported the tragedy after his sister died at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences.
The arrested individuals, identified as Almas alias Armaan, Sajid Hussain, Md. Raees, Md. Sharukh, Md. Haneef, and Md. Rajik, are all from Kishanganj, Bihar, and ran the momos stall in the Chintal Basti area of Khairathabad. They have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
In response to the incident, the Telangana government has implemented a statewide ban on the production, sale, and storage of mayonnaise made from raw eggs, aiming to mitigate further public health risks. The Commissioner of Food Safety enacted this precautionary measure, effective from October 30 for one year. The incident has raised concerns over food safety standards in the city, with authorities taking stringent actions to prevent future occurrences.
