Unstoppable Warriors: India’s 18-Member Women’s Hockey Squad Announced for 2024 Asian Champions Trophy
Hockey India has announced a refreshed 18-member lineup for the Indian Women’s Hockey Team set to compete in the Women’s Asian Champions Trophy 2024. This prestigious tournament, taking place from November 11-20 at the state-of-the-art Rajgir Hockey Stadium, will see the Indian team defending their title after last year’s impressive victory in Ranchi.
The tournament promises intense competition, with India facing five challenging opponents, including Olympic silver medalists China, as well as Japan, Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand. Captain Salima Tete and vice-captain Navneet Kaur are determined to maintain India’s dominance on the continental stage.
Anchoring the team’s defense, seasoned goalkeepers Savita and Bichu Devi Kharibam will guard the net. They will be supported by a strong defensive lineup featuring Udita, Jyoti, Ishika Chaudhary, Sushila Chanu Pukhrambam, and Vaishnavi Vitthal Phalke. The midfield, led by Salima Tete, includes experienced players like Neha, Sharmila Devi, Manisha Chauhan, Sunelita Toppo, and Lalremsiami, recognized for their playmaking skills and aggressive gameplay.
Up front, the forward line, including Navneet Kaur, Sangita Kumari, Deepika, Preeti Dubey, and Beauty Dungdung, aims to spearhead the attack. Notably, the team welcomes back Sushila Chanu and Beauty Dungdung, both of whom have successfully returned from injuries, adding to the compelling narratives of this tournament.
