Empowered T.N. Students Return from Japan Summit, Urging Crucial Awareness on Disaster Management
Tamil Nadu students emphasized the need for improved disaster awareness and management following their participation in the First International High School Students Summit in Kumamoto, Japan. The summit educated attendees on natural disasters, with a focus on tsunamis and related prevention systems. S. Sivashakthi, a student from Nagapattinam, highlighted the learning about early warning systems and interacted with 2004 Tsunami survivors for insights. Five students from various coastal regions in India, including Tamil Nadu, took part in the week-long event, where they explored areas affected by tsunamis and Japan’s reconstruction efforts. Collaborative preparation for their presentation on disaster prevention involved regular online meetings and teacher guidance over six months. The summit saw participation from 44 countries, aiming to equip students to promote disaster awareness. Accompanying teacher, D. Brinda, expressed confidence that these students will serve as advocates for natural disaster preparedness upon returning home.
