Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh launched several developmental and relief initiatives on October 23, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and supporting the people of the state. During a press conference at the Secretariat, Singh thanked central leaders for approving multiple projects during his recent visit to Delhi, highlighting the Centre’s dedication to Manipur’s advancement.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the Centre’s proactive approach to addressing Manipur’s developmental challenges, specifically mentioning efforts to close existing infrastructure gaps. Notably, the Ministry of Urban Development has sanctioned the construction of 7,000 houses, while the Ministry of Home Affairs approved 2,000 houses for internally displaced individuals currently residing in schools and colleges.
Among the major announcements was the approval for a new Rs 220 crore football stadium, pending final clearance. In infrastructure development, the Ministry of Road Transport allocated Rs 1,000 crore to complete unfinished highway segments and an additional Rs 175 crore for constructing concrete roads in district headquarters. Furthermore, Singh stated that efforts are underway to resolve land compensation disputes related to National Highway 37.
The resumption of work on a delayed railway line, previously stalled by landslides and compensation issues, is expected soon. To provide relief ahead of the Ningol Chakouba and Diwali festivals, a special package will grant Rs 1,000 to each person under government care.
On the financial front, Singh assured that outstanding salaries and pensions for government employees would be settled by October 31, reinforcing the government’s commitment to its fiscal duties.
In this series of initiatives, the focus remains on infrastructural growth and socio-economic stability, underscoring Singh’s commitment to bolstering Manipur’s progress through comprehensive support and development measures.
