Shocking Fiasco: Former Canadian Envoy Condemns India for Crossing Red Lines in Bilateral Ties
Former Canadian high commissioner Cameron MacKay has criticized the Indian government amidst allegations of a coordinated plot involving Indian nationals to carry out violence in the US and Canada, currently under investigation by both nations. MacKay condemned India’s actions as a “fiasco,” implying their agents mistakenly believed they could execute violent acts in North America without repercussions, according to CBC News. He noted that Canada has responded with strong diplomatic and law enforcement measures due to crossed “serious red lines.” MacKay also stated that restoring diplomatic relations with Canada isn’t a priority for India at the moment.
The issue gained momentum as US prosecutors indicted Vikash Yadav, accused of a murder-for-hire scheme targeting a Sikh separatist leader, designated as part of India’s foreign intelligence service. Despite India’s denial, claiming Yadav no longer works for them, protests erupted with Sikh demonstrators blaming India’s government. The protesters targeted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi symbolically outside various consulates, reflecting the escalating tensions. Canada has expelled several Indian diplomats, linking them to these plots and suggesting a systematic attempt to silence Indian dissidents abroad.
