State Government Demolishes Bharat Ratna Sangha Club Amidst Criminal Allegations

Agartala, 17th July 2024: In a decisive crackdown on illegal activities, the state government demolished the Bharat Ratna Sangha Club at Usha Bazar, located on Agartala’s outskirts. The move came amid serious allegations that the club and its members were involved in criminal activities including land encroachment, smuggling, and illicit tender negotiations.
West District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar informed reporters that the club had been established on government land. "Following proper demarcation and all legal procedures, we demolished the structure to pave the way for future projects, such as a Primary Health Care center," Dr. Kumar stated. He highlighted that the government’s actions are aligned with its zero-tolerance policy toward criminal activities and land encroachment.
Despite the club’s history of positive social contributions, recent investigations uncovered the involvement of some members in severe crimes. "We originally supported the club for its social work, but upon discovering illegal activities among its members, both old and new, we had to take stringent action," Dr. Kumar explained. The reclaimed one-acre land is now designated for community benefits, including the establishment of a Primary Health Care center.
Adding to the club’s controversial history, it had previously been involved in a high-profile murder case. On April 30, former club secretary Durga Prasanna Deb, known as Vicky, was killed at point-blank range due to personal enmity.
The government’s decisive action marks a significant step in its commitment to curbing illegal activities and utilizing land for community welfare.
