Chaos at Indo-Bangla Border: Bangladeshi National Captured Smuggling Sugar in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills
A Bangladeshi national, Md. Hussain Ahmad from Sylhet District, was apprehended on October 15 while attempting to smuggle sugar across the India-Bangladesh border in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district. The Border Security Force (BSF) disrupted the smuggling operation during a routine patrol along the international boundary.
Troops from the 4th Battalion BSF observed suspicious activity as they spotted several individuals carrying headloads of sugar. When confronted, most of the smugglers managed to escape, taking advantage of the dense vegetation and rugged terrain. However, Ahmad was captured by the BSF personnel.
Ahmad was found in possession of multiple bags of sugar, which were intended for illegal transport into Bangladesh. The BSF officials subsequently transferred Ahmad and the confiscated sugar to the Pynursla Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by border security forces as they strive to curb smuggling activities along the India-Bangladesh frontier.
