Remarkable Triumphs: CARI Celebrates Ayurveda Breakthroughs in New Government’s First 100 Days
The Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI) in Guwahati showcased significant achievements from the first 100 days of the current administration at a press conference on October 9. Key figures, including CARI Director Dr. Dinesh Baruah and Dr. Sashi Sonowal from the Directorate of Ayush, highlighted efforts by the Ministry of Ayush to enhance patient care and broaden the reach of Ayurveda.
A major focus has been on geriatric care, with over 14,000 health camps conducted nationwide. CARI contributed by treating 3,558 elderly patients, which constitutes over 30% of its total patient care since April 2024.
Another noteworthy development is the establishment of the Northeast’s first dedicated Panchakarma Block at CARI, which has already provided therapeutic care to more than 4,550 patients. This facility aims to offer cost-effective Ayurvedic treatments while furthering research into Panchakarma therapies.
CARI is also spearheading research initiatives across Northeast India, such as surveying local health traditions and studying wild edible plants in Assam’s 12 districts. The institute boasts a cutting-edge Pharmacology and Chemistry Laboratory for Ayurvedic drug standardization and safety assessments.
In the last 100 days, CARI’s pathological lab has performed over 19,000 tests, with aspirations to exceed last year’s total of 50,000 tests. Additionally, the institute has established two Memorandums of Understanding with the College of Veterinary Science in Guwahati to advance pharmacological research.
The press conference highlighted these initiatives as indicators of growing public confidence in Ayurvedic medicine, reinforced by government outreach and support.
