Triumphant Victory: BJP’s Thrilling Third Straight Term Secures Haryana’s Future
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is on track to form the government in Haryana for a third consecutive term, leading in 49 assembly seats per the latest trends from the Election Commission of India. This outcome comes despite strong anti-incumbency sentiment and a tough challenge from the Congress Party. At 4:15 PM, the Congress was leading in 36 seats, while independents and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) were ahead in three and two constituencies, respectively.
Key victories were claimed by Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and independent candidate Savitri Jindal. However, INLD’s Abhay Singh Chautala was defeated, and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate Dushyant Chautala was trailing. Notable losses for the BJP included Gian Chand Gupta and OP Dhankar, while Haryana Lokhit Party’s Gopal Kanda also faced defeat.
A highlight of the elections was the victory of Congress candidate and Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who secured her first electoral win by defeating BJP’s Yogesh Kumar in Julana by 6,015 votes. Conversely, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) did not win any seats.
The counting of votes, which began at 8 AM under tight security, initially suggested a close contest. However, the BJP pulled ahead as the day progressed, countering predictions of a Congress surge. Despite confidence from Congress leader Sachin Pilot about a landslide win based on anti-incumbency and grassroots support, the BJP maintained its momentum, leading to another remarkable electoral victory in Haryana.
