Thrilling Victory: Meghalaya Triumphs at the Top of Group A in Women’s T20 Tournament!
In a thrilling encounter at the North East Cricket Development Council’s 1st Senior Women’s Interstate Friendship T20 Tournament 2024, Meghalaya secured a 17-run victory over Manipur, cementing their place at the top of Group A and advancing to the semifinals. The match took place at Pahamsning Cricket Ground in Ri-Bhoi.
Despite a shaky start, Meghalaya posted a challenging 97/5 in their 20 overs. Key contributions came from Neha Hajong (18) and Luiza Tamang (32 not out), who anchored the innings with a vital 45-run partnership. Daiaka Warjri also added 14 runs to the tally. Manipur’s bowling attack, led by RK Linthoingambi Devi, Chingkheileima Chanu Mangsatabam, and Monica Devi Ningthoujam, each took a wicket for just 13 runs.
In response, Manipur’s batting lineup struggled and could only muster 80 runs before being bowled out in 18.4 overs. Monica (24) and Kalpana Devi Keisham (17 not out) were the only batters to reach double figures. Meghalaya’s bowlers shone, with Daiaka Warjri taking 2/26 and Ruby Chettri, Debasmita Dutta, and Ajima Sangma each claiming a wicket to seal the win.
In Group B action, Sikkim narrowly defeated Mizoram by 9 runs to solidify their position as group leaders. Sikkim was previously victorious against Nagaland, who finished second in Group B. Manipur holds the second spot in Group A, following their win against Arunachal Pradesh.
Sikkim defended a modest total of 72/7 against Mizoram, with top scores from Tshering Ongmu Lepcha (20) and Anjeel Lepcha (18 not out). Mamta Rai’s impressive 3/11 couldn’t prevent Sikkim from inching ahead. Mizoram, despite a promising start by Felfeli Pautu (14) and P Vansangzuali (22), fell short with 63/8 in their 20 overs. Purni Maya Gurung’s stellar 3/8 played a key role in Sikkim’s victory.
The semifinals are set for tomorrow with Meghalaya facing Nagaland at 9 am, followed by Sikkim clashing with Manipur at 12:30 pm.
