Urgent Warning: Avoid All Non-Essential Travel to Iran – MEA Alert for Your Safety
New Delhi, Oct 2: India has issued a travel advisory for its citizens, urging them to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran amidst rising regional tensions. The advisory from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlights concerns over the recent escalation of security issues in Iran. Indian nationals residing in Iran are advised to stay vigilant and maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
This precaution follows a significant escalation on Tuesday night when Iran launched approximately 200 missiles at Israel. Tehran has claimed that the targets were "military and security establishments" in Israel, justifying the attack as a defense measure for Iran’s interests and citizens. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Iran stands firmly against any threats, warning Israel against further conflict.
The missile assault prompted Israel to intercept a large number of incoming missiles through its air defenses. Support from the United States aided these efforts, as confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and The Times of Israel. In response to the attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Iran had made a "big mistake" and would face repercussions.
The situation has intensified with Israeli retaliation looming, causing further instability in the region. IDF spokesman Daniel Hagari labeled Iran’s attack a "severe and dangerous escalation," indicating consequential Israeli responses.
As a result of the missile attack, Israel’s Airports Authority shut down the country’s airspace, rerouting incoming flights to other destinations. Neighboring countries Jordan and Iraq also temporarily closed their airspace and suspended air traffic due to security concerns.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently discussed the geopolitical challenges with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi during the BRICS meeting in New York, reflecting ongoing efforts to address the conflict through diplomatic channels.
Given the precarious security environment, Indian nationals are strongly advised to exercise caution and defer all non-essential travel to Iran.
