Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram commenced a three-day visit to Assam on Monday, focusing on the review of various central government schemes. He was welcomed at Dibrugarh airport by Assam Minister Ranoj Pegu and then proceeded to Sivsagar.
Oram expressed his enthusiasm for the visit on social media, stating, “Arrived in Dibrugarh, greeted by dedicated karyakartas. Embarking on a journey through Northeast’s wonders. Their warm welcome sets the tone for an unforgettable stay. Ready to explore, discover and embrace the beauty of this land.”
During the day, Oram inaugurated a water supply scheme in Demow in the Sivsagar district. He also paid a visit to the ‘Sivadol’ (Shiva temple) in Sivsagar town and laid floral tributes to the prominent tribal leader Bhimbar Deori.
Assam Tribal Affairs Minister Ranoj Pegu noted that Oram chaired a meeting with the district administration and other departmental officers in Sivsagar. The meeting aimed to review central government schemes implemented in the district and discuss the overall functioning of the district.
Furthermore, Oram inspected the Tengapani to Disangmukh dyke. According to Pegu, a scheme worth Rs 9 crore is currently being implemented to raise and strengthen the dyke, incorporating erosion protection measures. This initiative is expected to provide flood protection for several gram panchayats in the Sivsagar district.
Oram’s visit underscores the central government’s ongoing efforts to evaluate and enhance the efficacy of its schemes, aiming to bolster development and flood protection measures in Assam.
