PV Sindhu, Lakshya Sen Clinch Hylo Open 2026 Singles Titles for India
PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen delivered a double-title triumph for India at the Hylo Open 2026 badminton tournament, winning the women’s and men’s singles crowns at the Saarlandhalle in Saarbrücken, Germany, on Sunday, November 1.
Two-time Olympic medallist Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Line Kjærsfeldt 21-12, 21-14 in the women’s final, while Lakshya Sen overcame Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie 21-17, 21-10 to claim the men’s title. Both finals were completed in 39 minutes.
Second seed and world No. 8 Sindhu dominated the women’s final against world No. 25 Kjærsfeldt, taking control after the opening game was tied at 5-5. She built a commanding lead to win the first game 21-12 and maintained her advantage throughout the second to prevent any comeback. Sindhu entered the final with a 6-1 head-to-head record against the Danish shuttler.
The victory gave Sindhu her second BWF World Tour title of the season, following her Japan Open Super 750 triumph in July, and her seventh World Tour title overall. It was also her first individual title since December 2024 and her first season since 2022 with multiple World Tour crowns. Sindhu had finished runner-up at the French Open last week, losing to South Korea’s world No. 1 and Paris 2024 Olympic champion An Se-young.
Reflecting on her performance, Sindhu said: “It was important for me to give my 100% irrespective of who the opponent was. We’ve played a lot of times and for me it was important that I focused on every point. I think I took the lead from the beginning and I didn’t give her a chance.”
Later in the day, seventh seed and world No. 14 Lakshya Sen produced a commanding performance against sixth-ranked Jonatan Christie. Sen used sharp net play to open an 18-10 lead in the first game, withstood a brief comeback as Christie won seven straight points to close to 17-18, and held his nerve to take the game 21-17. He then controlled the second game to seal a comfortable 21-10 victory.
The win marked Sen’s second Hylo Open title, having previously won the men’s singles crown in 2019 when the tournament was classified as a BWF Super 100 event. It was his fifth BWF World Tour title, in addition to two Super 100 titles, and brought him level with Christie at 4-4 in their career head-to-head record. Sen had also reached the All England Open final earlier this year, finishing as runner-up.
The twin victories provided a significant boost to Indian badminton, with Sindhu and Sen securing prestigious Super 500 titles in their respective categories.
