Arunachal: Chowna Mein Urges Youth Entrepreneurship, Siang Dialogue
Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein on Friday urged the state’s youth to look beyond government jobs and pursue entrepreneurship, while offering dialogue with all stakeholders over the proposed Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP). Speaking at the silver jubilee celebrations of the All Palin, Chambang, Yangte, Gangte & Tarak-Lengdi Students’ Union (APCYGTSU) at Palin, Mein said young people should seize opportunities in tourism, agriculture and other emerging sectors instead of relying solely on government employment.
He said Arunachal Pradesh’s natural beauty, biodiversity and cultural diversity, along with improving road connectivity and tourism infrastructure, were creating opportunities in homestays, resorts, restaurants and related businesses. He urged young entrepreneurs to use government schemes and incentives.
On the proposed SUMP, Mein said the government was open to dialogue with community organisations, student bodies, civil society groups and individuals who have raised concerns. He said differences in a democracy should be addressed through constructive engagement, informed discussions and mutual understanding, and stressed the need for expert consultations and public awareness about the project.
Mein highlighted expanding opportunities for Arunachal’s younger generation, saying greater exposure and platforms had enabled young people to demonstrate their abilities in sports, culture, agriculture and other fields. Referring to platforms such as Arunachal Idol, Arunachal’s Got Talent and Miss Arunachal, he said youth today had more chances to develop and display their talents. He also praised the confidence and communication skills of Miss APCYGTSU 2026 participants.
He stressed the need to preserve indigenous languages, traditions and cultural identity while embracing modernisation. He urged young people to document oral histories, preserve traditional knowledge and safeguard their languages and literature for future generations, and called for the preservation and digitisation of ancient manuscripts. He also referred to the state’s hydropower, mineral and mining resources and called for their responsible utilisation to support economic growth and create local opportunities.
Mein urged the youth to channel their energy and abilities towards building a peaceful and progressive Arunachal Pradesh. He congratulated APCYGTSU on completing 25 years and appreciated the Silver Jubilee Celebration Committee and the student body for bringing together students and communities to celebrate their shared heritage and cultural identity. The celebrations, held under the theme “Honouring the Past, Charting the Future,” were attended by Ministers Balo Raja and Ojing Tasing, among others, and featured cultural performances and the grand finale of Miss APCYGTSU 2026.
