Assam Cabinet Clears Rs 300-Cr Sintex Industry in Rangia, 300 New Jobs
The Assam Cabinet has approved a Rs 300-crore investment proposal from the Welspun Group, the conglomerate behind the Sintex brand, to set up an industrial unit in Rangia, with the project expected to generate around 300 jobs. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the decision at a press briefing at Lok Sewa Bhawan on Friday, following the Cabinet meeting.
“The Cabinet has approved an investment proposal from the Welspun Group, which owns the Sintex brand, to establish an industry worth Rs 300 crore in Rangia. The project is expected to generate employment for around 300 people,” Sarma said.
Along with clearing the investment proposal, the Cabinet also approved related amendments, formally paving the way for the proposed industrial project to take shape in the area.
In another key decision taken at the same meeting, the Cabinet approved the election rules for the Mising Autonomous Council and the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council, clearing the path for elections to both bodies in November. The Chief Minister said the government has directed the State Election Commission to conduct the polls.
“The Cabinet has approved the election rules for both the Mising Autonomous Council and the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council. We have directed the State Election Commission to conduct the elections in November,” Sarma said.
The approval of the election rules is expected to facilitate the smooth conduct of the electoral process for the two autonomous councils. Together, Friday’s decisions signal movement on two fronts for the state government — attracting private industrial investment and advancing local self-governance elections.
