A promotional visit by Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan to the Attari-Wagah border took an awkward turn after loud music blaring from the Pakistani side made it difficult for the stars to address the crowd, according to videos circulating online. The two actors were at the border post to promote their upcoming spy comedy “Udta Teer”, which is set to release in theatres on Friday.
Clips from the event, which have been widely shared, show the pair attempting to speak to those gathered at the border while loud music played in the background, all but drowning out their voices. In one of the videos, the popular song “Tajdar-e-Haram” by Pakistani singer Atif Aslam can be heard playing over the proceedings.
Earlier in the day, Sara had visited the Golden Temple in Amritsar before heading to the border. She later shared a message thanking the Border Security Force (BSF), describing the visit as a proud moment and saluting the force for its sacrifice and strength.
Directed by Akash A Kaushik, “Udta Teer” is a cross-border spy comedy in which Ayushmann plays an ISI agent who arrives in India, loses his memory and comes to believe he is a RAW agent. The unusual premise pairs the actor with Sara in a story that plays on the India-Pakistan rivalry for comic effect.
The film’s cast also includes Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, Raghubir Yadav and Brijendra Kala, as well as the late actor Mukul Dev, according to a report. The project is a collaboration between Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment.
While the promotional stop at one of India’s most high-profile border crossings was intended to generate buzz ahead of the film’s Friday release, the unexpected soundtrack from across the border gave the event an unintended twist, with the videos quickly drawing attention on social media.
