Assam Shines with Four Medals at National Dragon Boat Championship
Assam claimed three silver medals and one bronze at the 13th National Dragon Boat Championship, held at Wazirabad Lake in New Delhi from October 18 to 20, with the state’s Under-24 paddlers securing podium finishes in both women’s and mixed-team events.
The state opened its medal account on the first day of the three-day competition, with its Under-24 mixed team — comprising both male and female paddlers — finishing among the top three in the 1,000-metre mixed category to take bronze.
Assam’s Under-24 women’s team added a silver on the second day, finishing second in the 500-metre event to strengthen the state’s position in the medal standings.
The contingent then closed the championship strongly on the final day, picking up two more silver medals. The Under-24 women’s team finished second in the 200-metre race, while the state’s Under-24 mixed team also claimed silver in the same distance category.
With four medals overall, Assam ended its campaign with podium finishes across all three race distances — 200 metres, 500 metres and 1,000 metres — in the Under-24 category.
The championship brought together teams from across the country to compete in a range of dragon boat racing events at Wazirabad Lake. Assam’s consistent performance over the three days added to the state’s medal tally at the national-level competition.
