Nagaland: Forest Official Facing Rs 1 Lakh Demand Scandal
Dimapur, Nagaland: The State Crime Police Station (SCPS) has registered a First Information Report (FIR) following a written complaint alleging bribery by a forest official from the Wildlife Division in Dimapur and others. The official, along with unidentified individuals, allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from Vezhoto Hesuh to secure his release from detention.
Hesuh was detained in September by the Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Wildlife Division, Dimapur, over photographs and videos of animals posted on his Facebook page. The complaint, according to a release by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Police Headquarters (PHQ), Nagaland, alleged that no written notice, receipt, challan, or other lawful document was provided to justify the demand.
During the preliminary inquiry conducted by Dimapur police, statements were recorded, and an audio recording was recovered. Subsequently, a case was registered at the SCPS under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Further investigation, including a forensic examination of the audio recording, is underway to establish the facts. Police have confirmed that the allegations are still under investigation.
