David Ellison: Paramount, Warner Bros. Discovery to Be Named Skydance
Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery’s combined company will be called Skydance, David Ellison said, as the media giants prepare to complete their merger next week following a judge’s approval of a settlement with state attorneys general.
The naming decision places the Skydance brand at the center of one of the media industry’s most significant consolidations. The merged business will combine Paramount’s film and television operations with Warner Bros. Discovery’s studios and streaming platforms, creating a broader entertainment company spanning production, distribution and digital media.
Gerry Cardinale, an architect of the transaction, said most of the approximately $6 billion in expected cost savings will not come from layoffs. The strategy will therefore depend primarily on other efficiencies, although the available announcement did not provide a detailed breakdown of the planned savings.
Paramount Skydance shares were also lower in Tuesday trading as investors assessed the merger. The stock decline came alongside confirmation of the company’s name and progress toward closing the deal, highlighting the scale of the integration and the financial benefits expected from combining two of Hollywood’s largest media businesses.
