Ahead of the Silchar Municipal Corporation elections, Silchar MLA Zubair Anam Majumdar accused the police administration of acting impartially and alleged that it was working in favour of the ruling party. Addressing a campaign programme supporting Congress candidates, Majumdar warned the Cachar police and the officer-in-charge of Silchar Sadar Police Station over their alleged role in the electoral process.
Majumdar said, “When we come to power, we will see,” while questioning the administration’s conduct. His remarks questioning the neutrality of the police force triggered political discussion in Silchar, with the ruling camp also criticising his statements.
The comments came as political parties intensified their outreach ahead of the municipal polls. The police administration had not publicly responded to Majumdar’s allegations at the time of the statement.
