মৌন ট্ৰাম্প: ইৰান যুদ্ধত সেনা সচিবৰ আকস্মিক পদত্যাগ-হেগছেথৰ সৈতে ক্ষমতাৰ সংঘাত
Amid the ongoing war with Iran, Den Driscoll has resigned as United States Secretary of the Army, the White House confirmed on Monday. Officials did not disclose a reason for his departure; Driscoll had been sworn in on February 25, 2025.
U.S. media reports say Driscoll had been locked in a months‑long power struggle with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over who would hold influence within the Pentagon. The disagreement reportedly escalated as Hegseth began replacing several senior military leaders after taking office.
Last April, Hegseth removed the Army’s top officer, General Randy George, a move that drew public anger from Driscoll. The shake-up also saw General Christopher Donahue, who oversaw U.S. forces in Europe and Africa, step down. Hegseth later appointed General Christopher Lenivk to replace George, according to the reports.
Sources say Driscoll halted several Army modernization programs that had been started during his tenure, and that the dispute over leadership and those program decisions marked the start of the rift between him and Hegseth.
Politically, Driscoll was a close ally of Vice President J.D. Vance and had served as one of Vance’s advisers before joining the Trump administration. He was also described as close to former President Donald Trump; Trump nominated him for the Army secretary post in 2024 and called him an “agent of change,” later assigning him to efforts aimed at bringing Ukraine back to a negotiating table.
Driscoll’s military background includes service as an armor officer from 2007 to 2011, with a deployment to Iraq from 2009 to 2010. His father and uncle also served as officers in the U.S. Army.
Driscoll’s resignation deepens an ongoing leadership shake-up at the Pentagon and comes at a sensitive moment for U.S. military policy as the conflict with Iran continues. The immediate consequences for Army programs and Pentagon policymaking remain unclear.
