FSSAI Crackdown: 6 Food Firms Forced to Fix Misleading Labels
New Delhi, Aug 16: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) said on Sunday that six companies have taken corrective actions-such as withdrawing misleading labels and trademarks-after receiving notices from the regulator for alleged violations of law. The regulator announced the developments in a social media post, saying the six Food Business Operators (FBOs) responded promptly to its notices.
FSSAI gave the example of Livyor Ventures Pvt Ltd, which has withdrawn the claims “vegan” and “healthy” from the packaging of its product, Livyor Roasted Edamame Beans. The company filed a reply addressing the regulator’s concerns about the misleading assertions on the product label.
In its response, the FBO stated that the terms “vegan” and “healthy” were inadvertently printed on the label and attributed the error to a lack of awareness of the applicable regulatory requirements. FSSAI’s action follows its mandate to ensure accurate labelling and consumer protection.
The regulator’s notices and the subsequent withdrawals highlight ongoing enforcement efforts to curb misleading food claims that can influence consumer choice. (PTI)
