Sub-Inspector Nabajit Das, in-charge of the Laisong Police Outpost, died after being allegedly struck by a car while conducting naka checking in the Laisong area on the evening of August 14. The incident occurred as Das and other police personnel were carrying out the checkpoint operation.
According to reports, the vehicle involved bore the registration number AS 02 AJ 4335 and is alleged to have hit Das during the naka checking. Details about the driver or the circumstances leading to the collision have not been released.
Das sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Haflong Civil Hospital, where doctors pronounced him brought dead on arrival. Hospital authorities have not provided further medical details.
A resident of Udaguri under Udalguri Police Station in Udalguri district, Das was serving as the officer-in-charge at the Laisong outpost at the time of the incident.
News of his death has cast a pall over the local police fraternity. Colleagues and well-wishers expressed deep grief at the loss of an officer who was on duty when the accident occurred.
Local police have not yet released a formal statement on the ongoing investigation, and further details are awaited.
