Manipur Special Forces Officer Awarded Kirti Chakra; Six Cops Honoured
Imphal, Aug 15: Lieutenant Colonel Maneo Francis of the elite 21 Para (Special Forces) has been awarded the Kirti Chakra for exceptional gallantry in counter-insurgency operations, while six personnel of the Manipur Police were honoured with President’s Police Medals announced on Independence Day 2026.
The Kirti Chakra is India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award. Francis, a native of Tadubi in Senapati district, received the honour in recognition of his bravery and distinguished service during counter-insurgency duties. He had earlier been awarded the Shaurya Chakra when he served with the rank of Major.
Among the Manipur Police officers recognised on the occasion, Sub-Inspector Lokendra Singh Arambam of the Armed Police was conferred the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM). The President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM) was awarded to Inspector General Ningthoujam Warangam, Commandant Sarma Devi Khoisnam, Commandant Vungpam Kasar, Havildar Leivon Lemboi Kom, Subedar Irungbam Shyamsundar Singh and Subedar Birla Singh Soraisham.
Congratulating the awardees, Manipur Police said the honours acknowledge outstanding service, dedication and an unwavering commitment to duty. The department described the recipients’ achievements as a source of pride for the entire police family and said they would inspire personnel across ranks. Manipur Police also extended best wishes to all the awardees for continued success in their service to the nation.
These honours were announced as part of the Independence Day awards, which recognise acts of gallantry, distinguished service and exceptional commitment by members of the armed forces and police organisations across India.
