Kamjong Remembers Partition Horrors; DC Audits Refugee Biometrics

Deputy Commissioner L.N. Kashung led Kamjong district’s observance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day on Friday, August 14, and later visited a refugee camp at Huimin Thana near the India–Myanmar border to inspect biometric registration of recently arrived refugees. The day’s events at the Mini Secretariat conference hall and the subsequent field visit brought together senior district officials as authorities monitored cross‑border movements.

The commemorative programme at the Kamjong district headquarters honoured the millions displaced or killed during the 1947 Partition of the Indian subcontinent. District officials-including Superintendent of Police Tholu Rocky and Additional Deputy Commissioner H.L. Jain-attended the ceremony. Kashung said the observance aimed to remember the immense suffering of Partition victims, counter social divisions, promote national unity and reinforce a spirit of oneness.

Kashung led officials and participants in a two‑minute silence to honour those who lost their lives during the Partition. The ceremony emphasized remembrance and communal harmony as central purposes of the annual observance.

Following the meeting, Kashung headed a team of officials to the refugee camp at Huimin Thana, a border village in Kamjong district where refugees who have entered Manipur from Myanmar are being sheltered. There he inspected the biometric capturing process for refugees who had arrived recently, ensuring registration procedures were being properly carried out.

The visiting team included Additional Deputy Commissioner H.L. Jain, Sub‑Deputy Collector Asem Manikanta, District Information Officer Ch. Sunni and other district officers. They also visited Border Pillar 99 along the India–Myanmar international boundary as part of their review.

The visits and inspections come amid continued monitoring by local authorities of developments along the international border and the movements of people arriving from Myanmar, reflecting ongoing administrative attention to both humanitarian needs and border security.
