STNM Hospital Readies Historic Kidney Transplant — Aug 15
Gangtok’s STNM Hospital held administrative and operational review meetings on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, to finalise preparations for a landmark kidney transplant scheduled for August 15, 2026, coinciding with the inauguration of the hospital’s new organ transplant centre and a dedicated post‑transplant ICU. The review aimed to ensure clinical readiness, patient safety and smooth conduct of the event and procedure.
Chaired by Health Secretary Tshewang Gyachho, the meeting brought together health department officials, the operating medical team, and hospital administrators. Attendees reviewed all essential groundwork for the transplant day, including clinical protocols, staffing plans and logistics for the inauguration and surgical programme. Particular attention was paid to coordination mechanisms and the alignment of liaison officers to manage visitors and the event’s overall proceedings.
Medical and administrative teams completed a detailed assessment of required consumables, buffer stocks and specialised manpower, while support units confirmed operational readiness. The hospital’s Engineering Cell — covering civil, mechanical, electrical and biomedical divisions — together with the IT cell, reported that technical systems and critical infrastructure have been updated and are functioning, the department said. As the statement put it, the teams are working to “uphold rigorous standards of patient safety and clinical excellence.”
Concluding the review, Secretary Tshewang Gyachho extended his best wishes to the medical and support staff and urged all personnel to perform their duties with dedication, professionalism and close inter‑departmental coordination to ensure the successful execution of this historic medical milestone for Sikkim.
