Brazen Barpeta Shop Burglary Outside SP Office: CCTV Gear, Cash Stolen
A grocery shop located directly opposite the Superintendent of Police’s office in Barpeta, Assam, was allegedly burgled, raising fresh concerns about security in the area. The shop owner, Munindra Nath Talukdar, said the burglars entered the premises after breaking through the ceiling and fled after ransacking storage areas.
According to Talukdar, the thieves took CCTV-related equipment and about Rs 2,000 in loose cash that was kept at the shop. Staff and neighbours found the premises disturbed and items strewn where cash and goods are normally stored.
This is reportedly the third time the shop has been targeted by burglars, a pattern that has alarmed both the owner and local residents. Many in the community have expressed unease that such an incident could occur directly in front of the SP office.
The repeated break-ins have prompted questions about the adequacy of security arrangements in the area and the safety of Talukdar’s business, particularly given its proximity to a major law-enforcement office.
