Shocking Dhubri Teer Bookie Arrest: Cash, Phone & Records Seized
Dhubri police arrested an alleged illegal Teer bookie near Shirighat along the Gadadhar River on Tuesday night, August 11, seizing cash, a mobile phone and a notebook containing betting records. The operation was carried out by a team from Dhubri Sadar Police Station after they received specific intelligence and intercepted the suspect at about 9:09 pm.
The arrested man was identified as Abdul Khalek Sk, a resident of Birsing, Dhadaimari, under Fakirganj Police Station in Dhubri district. During a search, officers recovered Rs 1,200 in cash, the mobile phone and a notebook with entries described by officials as records of illegal Teer counting numbers.
Teer is a form of betting tied to archery events that is known in parts of Assam; authorities say such unlicensed operations are illegal. The suspect and the seized items were taken to Dhubri Sadar Police Station for further legal action, officials confirmed.
Police have launched an investigation to determine the scope of the alleged gambling operation and to identify any other individuals involved. Authorities did not immediately disclose whether charges had been filed, saying inquiries are ongoing.
