Mumbai Vile Parle Building Fire: 2 Dead, 6 Injured in Blaze
Two people, including a 2.5-year-old boy, were killed and six others injured after a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 12-storey building in Vile Parle West, Mumbai, on Tuesday night (August 11, 2026). The blaze swept through part of the floor before firefighters brought it under control, authorities said.
The fire was reported to have been confined mainly to electrical wiring and installations, an air-conditioning unit, household items, a sofa, a bed, a false ceiling and kitchen utensils. The affected area was estimated at roughly 4,000 sq ft.
Mumbai Fire Brigade received the emergency call at about 10:02 pm. The incident was initially declared a Level‑1 fire at 10:08 pm and was upgraded to Level‑2 at 10:16 pm. Firefighters worked through the night and extinguished the blaze at around 1:00 am.
Two people were taken to Cooper Hospital: 30‑year‑old fireman Manoj Sonavane and 29‑year‑old Shivam Dwivedi; both were treated and discharged. Six others were shifted to Nanavati Hospital. At Nanavati, 2.5‑year‑old Abir and 23‑year‑old Ankita were declared brought dead. The remaining four injured — Parth (32), Hiren (64), Yashasvi (33) and Abhishek — were reported stable; Yashasvi and Abhishek have since been treated and discharged.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and is under investigation. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about electrical safety and fire preparedness in high‑rise residential buildings in Mumbai.
