The Border Haat at Pangsau Pass on the India-Myanmar border reopened on July 30, restoring a cross-border trading point intended to boost local commerce and improve livelihoods for frontier communities. The market was inaugurated by Arunachal Pradesh Trade and Commerce Minister Nyato Dukam and is expected to revive traditional trade links between border villages on both sides.
The inauguration was attended by MLA Mohesh Chai, MLA Laisam Simai, Trade and Commerce Secretary Bullo Mamu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Jairampur L. Thungon, officials from the Trade and Commerce Department, district administration representatives, traders and local residents.
Authorities say the Border Haat will provide a marketplace for locally produced goods, supporting farmers, artisans, small traders and entrepreneurs by offering direct access to cross-border customers. The state government highlighted the haat’s potential to generate employment, increase incomes and strengthen community-level economic ties across the frontier.
After the formal opening, Minister Nyato Dukam and other officials inspected the market premises, interacted with traders and reviewed available facilities to ensure the site is ready for commercial activity.
The reopening is part of the Arunachal Pradesh government’s broader effort to bolster border infrastructure, encourage local trade and improve economic connectivity in remote frontier areas, signalling a renewed focus on regional development and cross-border cooperation.
