Residents and organisations from lower Assam have sent multiple truckloads of relief to flood-ravaged districts in upper Assam, responding to urgent needs reported from the worst-affected areas. Aid consignments carrying food, drinking water, clothing and hygiene supplies were gathered and dispatched by community groups and volunteers in Dhubri and neighbouring districts.
The Bongaigaon District Social Service Association, led by social worker Prabin Kumar Baishya, sent consignments that included rice, pulses, edible oil, drinking water, biscuits, baby food, clothes, sanitary items and other essentials to some of the hardest-hit communities. “Natural disasters know no boundaries. When our brothers and sisters in upper Assam are suffering, it is our moral responsibility to stand beside them. We appeal to more people and organisations to come forward and support the flood victims in whatever way they can,” Baishya said.
Mithun Paul, head of the AGP Linguistic Minority Cell in Bilasipara, organised public contributions and dispatched a truckload of food, clothes and other necessities. “Our objective is to ensure that relief reaches those who need it the most. The people of Assam have always stood together during times of crisis, and this is another example of our shared humanity,” Paul said.
In Dhubri, social worker Simul Sarkar coordinated a community collection drive with support from residents, traders and well-wishers; he later left for Sivasagar to distribute supplies among affected families. Volunteers helping load and transport the goods described the efforts as grassroots solidarity aimed at reaching remote and badly hit villages.
Residents and volunteers said the relief drives reflect Assam’s spirit of solidarity and urged more individuals, civic groups and organisations to contribute cash, supplies or logistical support so aid can reach survivors quickly and efficiently.
