Meta Restores PM Modi Video on Controversial NEET Paper Leak Crackdown

Meta said on July 28 that a technical error briefly removed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video on measures to tackle examination paper leaks, and that the content has since been restored. “The content was removed in error and has since been restored,” a Meta spokesperson said. The video, uploaded on July 23, became inaccessible for a short period in the early hours of July 28 before reappearing on the platform.

The address was Mr Modi’s first direct message to Generation Z during a 36-day student agitation led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over alleged irregularities in the NEET‑UG 2026 examination. In the video, he reassured students the Centre would strengthen legal measures to prevent paper leaks.

Mr Modi said the government is preparing stricter laws that would include provisions for Fast‑Track Courts and tougher penalties for those involved in leaking or tampering with exam papers. He added that a draft law would be placed before the Union Cabinet before being introduced in Parliament.

The prime minister also said the government had ensured the academic year of nearly 22 lakh students remained unaffected and emphasised that protecting young people’s futures was a priority. His remarks came as protests over the alleged NEET‑UG paper leak intensified nationwide, with students and opposition parties demanding greater accountability.

Separately, the Centre introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, proposing stricter punishments under the law, including imprisonment of up to 10 years, higher fines and the creation of Special Fast‑Track Courts to hear cases under the legislation.

The student agitation ended on July 25 after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. The government said it reached an agreement with the CJP and activist Sonam Wangchuk that included withdrawing cases against protesters, assurances of no police intimidation and a commitment to introduce stronger legislation to curb exam paper leaks.

The controversy has also dominated the Monsoon Session of Parliament, where the Opposition repeatedly sought Mr Pradhan’s resignation and pressed for a detailed discussion on the NEET‑UG paper leak issue, causing frequent disruptions inside and outside both Houses.
