Aizawl: The Mizo National Front (MNF) on Friday reaffirmed Mizo nationalism as its enduring guiding principle and urged the state’s young people to strengthen the community through education and nation‑building, MNF leader C. Lalramzauva said while addressing the party’s Chhung Inkhawm gathering at Mizo Hnam Run. The party, described on its official website as the state’s opposition, reiterated its commitment to both constitutional objectives and a set of “unwritten” aspirations that members hold deeply.
“As we work towards our constitutional objectives, we must also continue striving for the aspirations that are not written on paper but remain firmly rooted in our hearts. Whether in govt or in the opposition, we must continue working tirelessly. Our determination does not arise from reacting to the actions of any particular govt but from our clear vision for our land. That is why MNF constantly renews and strengthens itself,” the senior advocate said.
Lalramzauva said Mizo nationalism remains firmly embedded in the community’s consciousness: though Mizoram is an Indian state, many Mizos continue to see themselves as a distinct nation in identity and history. He recalled the armed struggle that preceded the 1986 Mizo Peace Accord, saying earlier generations made immense sacrifices before the accord ended the insurgency and brought MNF into electoral politics after the party renounced secession and violence.
Noting the progress Mizoram has made since the accord, Lalramzauva praised young people born after 1986 for their commitment to serving the state, while urging them to deepen their understanding of Mizo nationalism and to use education, knowledge and professional skills to build on the foundations laid by earlier leaders. He said nationalism should motivate practical contributions rather than mere rhetoric.
Lalramzauva called on successive governments to strengthen the education sector with sincerity and urged the present administration to accelerate development rather than allowing it to stagnate. He pressed officials to address concerns affecting ad hoc grant‑in‑aid schools, continue recruiting teachers and upgrade educational institutions, adding, “I urge the govt to fulfil the expectations of those serving in these schools.”
Appealing broadly to public servants, professionals, entrepreneurs and sportspersons, he said young people’s pursuit of academic excellence is among the greatest services they can render to the land. “Our nationalism should inspire us to become better educated and more capable. That is one of the greatest services our youth can render to the land and the Mizo people,” he said. “A strong sense of national identity, coupled with excellence in our respective fields, is the greatest path for our community to stand alongside others with confidence.”
