Assam Governor Inaugurates 47th Inter-District Athletics in Nalbari
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on July 24 inaugurated the 47th Inter‑District Athletics Championship at the District Sports Stadium Complex in Sariahtoli, Nalbari. The three‑day meet brings together nearly 1,150 junior and senior athletes from across the state to compete for district honours and showcase emerging talent.
Assam Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, who attended the inaugural ceremony, shared the update on X and said the large turnout reflects growing interest in athletics across the state. Competitors will take part in a range of athletic events over the next three days, with organisers aiming to identify promising performers for higher levels of competition.
Baruah highlighted state initiatives such as Khel Maharan, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, saying these programmes are helping to nurture a vibrant sporting culture by encouraging wider participation. He extended his best wishes to all participants and expressed hope that the championship would provide a platform for young athletes to display their abilities and progress in the sport.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister and Nalbari’s Guardian Minister Biswajit Daimary, officials from the Assam Athletics Association and the Nalbari District Sports Association, and representatives of the district administration were also present at the event, supporting the drive to strengthen grassroots athletics in Assam.
